I go this video link from Spare Room, Salvador is one of my favorite artists, so was pretty happy to come across it.
You know those passions that can't really be described except to say when you have to walk away from them for a bit, its for the better of the project rather than walking away because your SOOO over it. Thats what painting/printmaking is like for me. I love photography but by the end of a day driving around in the noisy clap trap truck taking photos of the amazing scenery in my neck of the woods, I am SOO Over it. So over it that stopping to photograph an amazing sunset is either resented or conveniently ignored.
I have not been painting for awhile because my dreams of paintings that were started in oils, did not happen how they were imagined. Getting back on the horse with one that was like an absent minded drawing turned into painting, was fun because it was an opp to play with acrylic, start using up the old student quality paints and to finally play with the wrapping paper I brought to collage into something. The brief was not to be precious with it.
As per usual I'm not that happy with it, but I am gonna put it on a wall. Just to inspire me to improve upon it. I do like parts of it, so if I pull those out and combo them with something else in the next painting then maybe it will grow on me for sentimental reasons.
The Christchurch public art gallery is hosting a touring exhibition of art works collected by Mary and Jim Barr. From the moment I entered I was grinning. Why? Because a lamp was turning itself on and off (a piece of artwork), and a conservative looking lady was looking horrified. Art to me is so many things, but for most is the ability to play and create things that make people react.
